Pine Needle Basket - Hummingbird

Vibrant Hummer - Hummingbirds hold a very special place in my heart. Their wings beat so swiftly, they seem to hover in stillness as they drink deeply from the flowers. Their spirit reminds us to enjoy the here and now, this moment, the timeless present. Focus your energy on the flower before you and know that what you desire is being provided. The center is a vintage plate surrounded by vintage bright orange beads. I used dyed pine needles in varying shades of green and 2-ply waxed Linhasta thread. The Ti stitch took a while as this center is larger and heavier, thus my wrists were tired. This basket measures 9” by 11”. As there is quite a bit of stitching and the needles are already glycerined, I just used a heat gun to melt wax from the thread onto the pine needles for preservation.

Made with dyed pine needles, waxed thread and resin. Please keep out of direct sunlight. Not suitable for the oven or food. Okay to lay a towel and serve bread or crackers. Wipe with damp cloth. Primarily made for display. This pine needle basket took about 35 hours to make, especially using complex stitches.
